@homedoggy Ukraine is the name of the country. "the" indicates a region of a larger political unit. It's the difference, for example, of being in the northeast vs being in Maine.
We Rise was written by Batya Levine, who leads the singing circle. The woman three around from her, wearing stripes, is Molly Bajgot. She wrote Change Is Coming (below). The leadoff singer is Dr. Glen Thomas Rideout, who was music director at First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ann Arbor; he's now in Minneapolis.
I've always thought of it as "The" Ukraine, as well. Thank you for the explanations why, @Arborist and @zudensternen And thanks, @zudensternen for the wonderful music. Love the cards, @jim and @david !
My understanding from someone who just got back from there is that Putin Russians call it "The Ukraine" as if it's their property. A territory of Russia. Ukrainians and practically everyone else call it Ukraine.

Good idea. I’ll check with @Michael to see if he’s up for it.
Sounds good to me too,
yup!
I'll second that with gusto.
Great idea
@Michael actually started working on this back in March, but we were slow to respond. They're there now!
Thanks @david & @jim

Perfect and thank you.
Displaying their flag is hollow and meaningless.
No its not! Its a gesture of support and I'll back that anytime
I agree with you @graeme. It was great seeing you on Klondike this morning. It put a big smile on my face, as usual.
Tad off topic but...I grew up saying "The' Ukraine. Is that no longer correct?

"The Ukraine" is what Russians say, to emphasize that as far as they are concerned Ukraine is not a nation.
I don't know if Ukraine knows this performance, but it should be their anthem:
Oh, that was beautiful!!!
nice
nice
I'll triple that nice and double that beautiful.
