Sea Haven Towers

I'm just feeling my way into this game (I know, early adopter, me) after how many years on Greenfelt? Almost 20? [*] It is a wonderful game and offers challenges different in kind from those of Freecell or Klondike.

But my brain has gotten wired for the latter style of games. I'm not — yet! — instantly seeing patterns and lines of play in SHT the way I do in FC. Just need to put in the time and allow neural plasticity to do its work.

I find I'm scanning the leader board and marveling at how anyone could clear this board in under a minute. I feel like the novice posters to this forum who exclaim that no one could possibly beat Freecell in 4 seconds without cheating, never having read the FAQs or watched the @DeusExMachina solution videos.

But I want to encourage all to try Sea Haven Towers. Many games get only 20 or 30 plays before the tide moves on, and it seems a shame because it's such a fine game.

[*] The earliest snapshot the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine has of
greenfelt.net is from June 18, 2005, and it consists of... a background
of green felt and nothing else! Almost a year later, on April 2, 2006,
the site has content, and looks pretty much like it does today. Twelve
games were offered then vs. the 24 today.

  • @zudensternen Practice, practice, practice as we post to many others. I know you know that!
I used to be pretty fast at FreeCell (started playing at beginning of pandemic.) Not leaderboard fast, but good enough. Got bored after a couple years. Switched to 40 Thieves. Good enough. Getting bored again after couple years, thinking about switching to ??? maybe SHT. Every starting over is like cranking an old Model A ... waiting for neural plasticity to take hold. :D Play on.

  • It really makes you appreciate myelin, doesn't it? The degree of extra effort when you have to push the neural impulses by force of will is sobering to behold.

  • I'm a stick in the mud.Played Klondike for many years, then decided to play 40 Thieves as an addition.....and that's where i'm at....two years later.Don't think my brain can take any more excitement.Never mind.Play on and enjoy. It's what keeps you going.

Thanks for the research, @zudensternen. That "all green page" is just getting an error. The games are there if you check the source. BTW, I don't see your account going back before 2017. Did you have a different username then?

  • @jim Don't think so, I'm (apparently) just mistaken about my longevity. Really had no sense how long it's been except "a long time."
