Why does the game start out with my place reporting against hundreds and within a few a few games

Pyramid starts out with my competing against about 100 other scores but within a few plays it drops me into 1 of 1. What's the deal?

Someone has to be first. We generally try and have you play the game of the day first. After that, every hour we define a sequence of shuffles for everyone to play. If you play too quickly or start too close to just after the hour then things might feel dead. You might try playing the games of the week which can be found on the leader board.
