I am using Chrome as my browser. Occasionally (or more than occasionally) the green felt page disappears to be replaced by my new tab. No explanation.

Odd.
Are you pressing a key at the time? Clicking the mouse? We certainly don't open or close tabs and I'm not sure we even can without some interaction from you.
Do you lose your game? Is it still open in the old tab? If not does "Back" take you back to it? If your game is gone does Ctrl-Shift-T bring it back?
