often the cards go transparent as if the base card is missing

I get this too, in Forty Thieves. A card will go transparent, and stay that way. If it's the three of spades, for instance (it's never the same card), wherever that card is in the layout it stays transparent. You can see what it is if you drag it over to the side without letting go, but it's annoying to remember that it's on top of the pile. A restart of the webpage seems to fix it.

Temporary fix, just re-size the browser and it will appear for the rest of the game. You might need to do this a few times during the game...for different cards....very annoying.
It is a problem with the video drivers. You could try using a different browser....
The only way I could fix it was to update my video drivers......works great now.
