Sometimes I wonder if Scorpion would be more fun if we started counting runs at three cards. (I think today my score would have been 3, but I might have overlooked one.) :-)

To me the Scorpion scoring seems kind of random to start it at 4. My guess is they wanted to give a bonus for getting a whole (and nearly a whole?) suit and that's how they got the max score to be 52. The games where you can't score at all are the least interesting IMHO B^)
The reasoning was that I wanted longer runs to count for more, but also wanted it to come out to 52 when you won (just to match the other games). That meant at some point some of the short runs wouldn't score anything. But yeah, the 4 is fairly arbitrary.
