FreeCell Competition Numbers Drop

When I come on-line to play FreeCell, I'll be competing against thousands of people.  The longer I play, the lower the number of people I am competing against.  Any thoughts?

    I would guess that as you get into the later games more people have dropped out - not everyone wants to play for an extended length of time.
