Addiction Scoring?

How does the scoring for Addiction work? I've noticed that I can put 10 cards in sequence and only get a score of 2, for instance. I can't find anything about what decides how bad my score is. (Addiction is my personal favorite game on GreenFelt, but I suck at it so badly. :P )
