To elaborate on @Arborist reply: if you have 0 open column, you can move 1 card (to matching suit, lower numeric order), if you have 1 open column, you can move 2 card (same suit, numeric order), if you have 2 open column, you can move 3 cards.

Clarification: if you have 1 open column you can move 1 card to the open column or 2 cards to another column with cards in it, etc.
