game difficulty

I sure wish that there was a way to select the degree of game difficulty. When trying to learn a new game it would be helpful to be able to select the easiest. Also I really do not like very difficult games as I am old & slower than others when playing. Has there been any thought of offering such choices--at least on games other than the game of the day?
