Not a joke, it is said he performed the miracle to save the grape crop. He is still celebrated in Northern Minnesota and the UP of Michigan. Grape crop? Sounds a lot like St Patrick of whom it is said ,that, after drinking he was the only one who saw the snakes.
How many more forgotten Saints are out there? Did they all save the grape, or barley in Scotland, or corn in Alabama?
Alabama? My daughters father-in-law had family in Alabama, many an evening we passed the canning jar. Sláinte to all

Ptownpapa, I live in Alabama......was born and raised in the city and knew nothing about gardening. Lived in the country a few years, had a huge vegetable garden and I canned everything in sight, sometimes until 2:00 a.m. (ouch). But we froze our corn and that's a whole story in itself, which I will not bore you with but it sure tasted good all through the winter.
@binky3 - When our children were very young we lived on a plot of land a "Hippie Farm", canned veggies and a
freezer full of free range chicken were our reward. I too appreciate home grown food in the winter, we lived
quite a bit north of 'Bama. Thanks for the memories
