It was explained on the post just before yours: Swiss National day. The cross is the Swiss flag.

No worries—I'd say it's a failing on our part. We have a normal cards button but we never say what the holiday actually is anywhere. Probably because we started with "obvious" (to US folk) holidays like Halloween and Christmas… But it would be nice to expose that somehow. Like when the google logo changes they make a hover popup that says what it's about…
